The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is excited to announce the opening of applications for this year’s ACU Gender Grants.
These grants are used to support initiatives that promote gender equity and equality within university campuses.
The ACU Gender Grants are designed to fund projects that address gender-related challenges and create lasting changes in university settings.
Grant Purpose and Focus Areas
The Grants are awarded annually to support a wide range of projects, workshops, and activities designed to foster a more inclusive and gender-equal university environment.
The grants can be used for projects like:
- Supporting women in leadership: This is for initiatives that empower women to take on leadership roles within academic and administrative settings.
- Addressing sexual harassment: For projects that raise awareness and develop anti-sexual harassment strategies to ensure a safe environment for all.
- Women in science and research: This is for projects that promote greater participation and support for women in scientific research and academic careers.
- Institutional policy development: Creating effective policies that support gender equity within university structures.
- Gender mainstreaming in the curriculum: Incorporating gender studies and perspectives throughout the university curriculum to promote broader awareness and understanding.
- Organizing gender equity projects: Supporting events, workshops, and other initiatives aimed at advancing gender equity on campus.
Special Focus: Anti-Sexual Harassment Initiatives
In partnership with the Martha Farrell Foundation, the ACU will offer three of the five available grants specifically for projects that are focused on creating and implementing effective anti-sexual harassment policies and strategies.
The Martha Farrell Foundation brings valuable expertise in the development of initiatives aimed at combating sexual harassment and promoting safe learning environments.

Five grants are available, with each grant offering up to £2,000 in funding.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for the ACU Gender Grants, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Employment status: Applicants must be early-career researchers or academics employed at an ACU member university.
- Full- or Part-time eligibility: Both full-time and part-time staff are encouraged to apply.
- ACU membership: Only staff members from ACU member universities are eligible for these grants.
